Rich Martin - My Wonder River Story

I am a qualified teacher (BA, MA, PGCE, MEd in Educational Leadership) with over twenty years' experience working with young people across a wide range of educational settings. Most recently, I was Head of English and Head of Year 8 at Moulsford Prep School in South Oxfordshire, where I developed a particular passion for helping young people navigate the important Key Stage 3 years. Throughout my career, I have taught students from Year 3 to Sixth Form, combining academic challenge with a strong focus on personal development, confidence and wellbeing.

Alongside my professional career, I am also a home-educating parent. Supporting my own children through different educational pathways has given me a valuable perspective on how young people learn and develop. It has reinforced my belief that confidence is one of the greatest gifts we can help young people build, and that confidence grows through meaningful relationships, purposeful challenge and opportunities to communicate, collaborate and discover what they are capable of.

These experiences led me to create Wonder River. My vision is to help young people grow in confidence through the three pillars of Communication, Collaboration and Mastery, whether within the Wonder River Community Programme, personalised one-to-one mentoring, English tuition or school workshops. Above all, I want every young person to feel known, valued and encouraged to discover their strengths, embrace challenge and flourish.

I live in South Oxfordshire with my wife, Sally, and our three children. Raffi, Year 10 is home educated, Juno is about to join our local secondary school, and Boonie is also home-educated in Year 3. Family life is busy, full of sport, adventure and learning together, and continues to shape my belief that every young person deserves opportunities to grow in confidence, develop their strengths and enjoy the journey of childhood and adolescence.
